Sodium bromide is a white crystal or powder. It has a salty or slightly bitter taste. Absorbs moisture from the air and agglomerates but does not deliquescent. Soluble in water. Low toxicity and irritation. It is used for trace determination of cadmium in analytical chemistry, photoplatemaking, and pharmaceutical. Physicochemical properties: colorless cubic crystals or white granular powder. It is odorless, alkaline and slightly bitter. The relative density is 3.203 (25 °C). Melting point 747 °c. It is hygroscopic in the air. Soluble in water (solubility is 121g/100ml water at 100 °C), and the aqueous solution is neutral. Slightly soluble in alcohol. At 51 °C, anhydrous sodium bromide crystals are precipitated in the solution, and dihydrate is formed below 51 °C. Its bromine ions can be replaced by chlorine.
