Laboratory use
Sodium bicarbonate can be used as an analytical reagent and also in inorganic synthesis [5]. It can be used to prepare sodium carbonate-sodium bicarbonate buffer solution, and when a small amount of acid or alkali is added, the hydrogen ion concentration can be kept without significant change, and the pH value of the system can be kept relatively stable.
Industrial use
Sodium bicarbonate can be used to produce acid and alkali fire extinguishers and foam fire extinguishers, and sodium bicarbonate can be used in the production of rubber and sponge in the rubber industry. In the metallurgical industry, sodium bicarbonate can be used as a flux for casting steel ingots. In the machinery industry, sodium bicarbonate can be used as a forming aid for cast steel (sand turning) sand molds. In the printing and dyeing industry, sodium bicarbonate can be used as a fixing agent for dyeing and printing, an acid-base buffer, and a post-treatment agent for fabric dyeing and finishing; Baking soda is added to dyeing to prevent the bobbin from blooming and can also be used as a detergent for wool.
Food processing use
In food processing, sodium bicarbonate is one of the most widely used loosening agents, used in the production of biscuits, bread, etc., but sodium carbonate will remain after the effect, and too much use will cause the food to be too alkaline and cause the flavor to deteriorate, and the color is yellow-brown. It is a generator of carbon dioxide in soda drinks; It can be compounded with alum as alkaline baking powder, and can also be compounded with soda ash as civil stone alkali; It can also be used as a butter preservative. It can be used as a color protection agent for fruits and vegetables in vegetable processing. When washing fruits and vegetables, adding about 0.1%~0.2% sodium bicarbonate can make the green color stable. When sodium bicarbonate is used as a fruit and vegetable treatment agent, the pH value of fruits and vegetables can be increased, the water-holding capacity of protein can be improved, the softening of food tissue cells can be promoted, and the astringent components can be dissolved by boiling and bleaching fruits and vegetables. In addition, it has a defatting effect on goat milk, and the dosage is 0.001%~0.002%.
Agricultural and animal husbandry uses
Sodium bicarbonate can be used for agricultural soaking, but also can make up for the lack of lysine content in the feed, sodium bicarbonate dissolved in a small amount of water or mixed into concentrate to feed cattle (appropriate amount added), can promote the growth of cattle, but also significantly improve the milk production of dairy cows.
Medical use
Sodium bicarbonate can be used as a raw material in pharmaceuticals for the treatment of hyperacidity, metabolic acidosis, and also for alkalizing urine to prevent uric acid kidney stones. It can also reduce the nephrotoxicity of sulfonamides, prevent hemoglobin deposition in the renal tubules during acute hemolysis, and treat symptoms caused by hyperacidity; Intravenous infusion has a non-specific therapeutic effect on drug poisoning such as barbiturates, salicylic acid and methanol. However, it is contraindicated for gastric lavage when swallowing strong acidosis, and when a large amount of injection, renal insufficiency or long-term application occurs, arrhythmia, muscle spasms, pain, abnormal tiredness and weakness, slowed breathing, odor in the mouth, frequent urination, urgency, persistent headache, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, etc
