Used as a central nervous system depressant in medicine, it has inhibitory and sedative effects and is used to treat conditions such as neurasthenia.
Nature
Colorless oblique needle shaped crystals or crystal blocks, odorless, salty and bitter in taste. Relative density 3.353 (25 ℃), melting point 730 ℃ (micro decomposition), boiling point 806-812 ℃. Easy to dissolve in water, aqueous solution appears neutral; Dissolve in ethanol, acetone, and acid; Slightly soluble in methanol and liquid ammonia; Insoluble in ether or chloroform. Can form double salts with alkali metal halides. Has strong hygroscopicity.
